Welcome to the Charles Macklin Autumn School website. The school was established to highlight the life and work of this local playwright and actor who was born in Gortanarin near Culdaff in approximately 1690. The first Macklin School was opened in 1990 by internationally acclaimed author, Brian Friel, who remains patron to the school. The event has become an important cu . . ltural event, providing a forum for creative activity in the region and has facilitated the staging of all Macklin's theatre works, lectures and the publication of a book on Macklin's life.
